Team Interview: "It motivates me to support people and improve their work processes."

Anja Wald, Agile Coach and Scrum Master at RE: GmbH, shares her career journey, her daily responsibilities, and personal interests.

Anja Wald has been with RE: GmbH since December 2022. In this interview, she shares her career journey, her daily responsibilities, and personal interests. Enjoy!

Hi Anja, please tell us about your career path.

Anja: "I’m not a career changer, but my path wasn’t exactly straightforward either. After studying business administration, I worked as an employee before becoming a self-employed project manager and Scrum Master for various companies. During this time, I learned the importance of clear communication and structure within a team—not just for project success. Before joining RE:, I was a Product Owner and Scrum Master at a software company in the funeral industry."

What brought you to RE:?

Anja: "A former colleague, with whom I had worked closely before, contacted me. He spoke highly of RE:, and I quickly realized that it was a great fit for me. Before committing, I wanted to meet the team because feeling comfortable and working in a trusting environment is essential for me. I was particularly impressed by RE:'s strong emphasis on open communication and a positive team atmosphere. Deciding to join RE: was easy because I felt right away that I could contribute and grow here.”

When did you join RE: and in what role?

Anja: "I joined RE: on December 1, 2022, as an Agile Coach and Scrum Master. In these roles, I support the teams in their agile practices and help optimize their processes. I also advise the company on strategic matters and assist in integrating agile principles across the organization.”

Can you explain more about what you do?

Anja: "I oversee two teams and support them during events like Dailies, Refinements, and Retrospectives. My role involves guiding the teams through various agile events and ensuring they deliver real value. For example, Dailies are used for exchanging updates each morning and identifying obstacles early. It’s a fifteen-minute window where everyone on the team reports on what was accomplished the previous day, what’s planned for today, and any potential challenges. It’s about creating transparency and finding solutions together.”

What do you particularly like about your job?

Anja: "I have a strong affinity for technology and am a good listener. It motivates me to support people and help them improve their work processes. I find it especially fulfilling to see the teams I support making real progress and continuously improving through agile methods. I address conflicts directly to create positive change because I firmly believe that open communication and tackling issues head-on are the keys to progress. The most important thing is to set clear boundaries and communicate transparently so that everyone knows where they stand and can focus on collaborative work.”

Please tell us about your personal interests.

Anja: "I live in Leipzig and enjoy remote working, which allows me flexibility, even to work from Bali! I have a large circle of friends and sing in a choir, the Connewitzer Kreuzchor. Singing makes me happy and complements my professional life. I also love traveling and discovering new places, which fits well with the possibility of remote work. Visiting Cologne once a month to meet the team in person provides a nice balance and gives me the chance to connect with my colleagues outside the virtual space.”

Thank you, Anja, for sharing your insights and experiences with us. We enjoyed learning about your approach and what you love about your job. We’re excited to see what’s next!
