"Data Collection and Process Monitoring are Key for Maintaining Control Over our Production"

Interview with Giacomo Rossi on Ticinoplast’s Journey to Digital Transformation

Giacomo Rossi, Production Manager at Ticinoplast

Ticinoplast partnered with RE: GmbH to enhance the efficiency and control of its production processes. In this interview, Giacomo Rossi, Production Manager at Ticinoplast, shares his experience with the integration of RE: GmbH’s digital solutions for the optimization of their blown film production.

The interview is also available in Italian!

Can you briefly introduce Ticinoplast and describe your role within the company?

Giacomo Rossi: Ticinoplast is a historic Italian company that produces PE blown films for the lamination sector, with a particular focus on the food industry. As Production Manager, I am responsible for overseeing the entire production process, ensuring high-quality standards, and continuously optimizing efficiency. I also manage the IT systems that support production, ensuring seamless data management and control.

What motivated you to obtain more detailed data from the production lines?

Giacomo Rossi: Data collection and process monitoring are key for maintaining control over our production and ensuring product quality. Without real-time insights, we risk severe disputes that can have both economic and reputational consequences. That’s why we needed more detailed data from our production lines.

What were the main challenges in integrating the production lines with a digital solution before collaborating with RE: GmbH?

Giacomo Rossi: The biggest challenge was consolidating large amounts of data from different endpoints into a single database. Each production line used different systems, which made data collection difficult. Additionally, working with external companies was challenging because it wasn’t easy to integrate external staff into such a complex production environment like extrusion.

Why did you choose the solution offered by RE: GmbH?

Giacomo Rossi: We chose RE: GmbH because they are part of the Reifenhäuser Group, which has extensive expertise in extrusion technology. RE: GmbH combines this knowledge with advanced digital solutions tailored to our industry. Their ability to integrate production lines from different suppliers into one system was crucial for us.

What do you appreciate most about the collaboration with RE: GmbH?

Giacomo Rossi: I appreciate the professionalism and competence of the RE: GmbH team. Everyone I worked with was very smart and demonstrated a deep understanding of both the equipment and the digital requirements of the project. Their expertise helped us navigate the complexity of our production environment smoothly.

Ticinoplast is a renowned Italian manufacturer specializing in PE blown films for the lamination industry, with a strong focus on the food sector. With decades of experience, the company continually innovates and enhances its production processes to maintain leadership in the market.

Can you describe the integration process and whether you encountered any specific challenges?

Giacomo Rossi: We installed converters that created OPCUA servers, making data from systems like Siemens CPUs with the S7 protocol available. Another team integrated this data into the c.Hub Middleware, and the integration process has run smoothly. We are now verifying that all the data is accurate and ready to enhance our real-time monitoring capabilities.

Were there any specific challenges or necessary modifications during the integration process? If yes, please provide further details.

Giacomo Rossi: We are still working on progressing with the integration of some third-party lines. We expect these to move forward soon, and once complete, they will further strengthen our ability to monitor production performance.

What improvements have you seen since implementing RE: GmbH’s solutions?

Giacomo Rossi: We have been able to develop new production protocols for the integrated extrusion lines. Before the integration, we could only check a limited number of data points, and the process was cumbersome. Now, with real-time data access, we have improved the tracking and optimization of our production processes, which has led to greater efficiency overall.

What are your next steps with RE: GmbH, and what value do you expect from these future integrations?

Giacomo Rossi: Our next step is to connect our ERP system with the c.Hub Middleware. This will allow us to import order IDs, enabling us to track individual production orders in real-time. We expect this integration to improve transparency and help us optimize workflows even further, increasing overall efficiency.

Thank you very much for the interview, Mr. Rossi. We look forward to our continued collaboration.
